The following is a genuine question that I received via eBay:
Greetings! Grabbing the attention of fifth graders can be a daunting task at times. We are studying classical music, and the students are BORED. Therefore, I am creating a lesson entitled 'Yo-yo with Yo Yo Ma.' I'm integrating the classical cellist Yo Yo Ma's music with the old fashioned yo-yo. Each student will be supplied with their own yo-yo. When the students listen to Yo Yo Ma's beautiful melodies they will perform such tricks as 'Walk the Dog', 'Rock the Baby', and 'Pop the Clutch' to the beats of the music. The students will love it! For example, if they are listening to Tchaikovsky's Gala in Leningrad they will 'Rock the Baby' during the soothing, lush theme. During the Appalachia Waltz they will 'Pop the Clutch' when Yo Yo Ma performs the pizzicato section. (Little Ronnie Hartsell was born with webbed fingers and naturally, will be exempt from participating). How many yo-yos do you have? Do you think fifth graders could easily learn these tricks? Thank you very much.
